Patsy
Davis
graduated from the Rhode Island
School of Design in 1976 with a BFA in Sculpture. While working as a
Commercial Artist for over 25 years, she developed hundreds of giftware
and toy lines including: My
Little Pony for Hasbro Toys as well as product lines for many major
companies including Warner Bros. and Disney. In the 1980s Patsy led her
company into the INC. 500 magazine as one of the fastest growing privately
held companies in the country. This
was largely due to the “I (heart)
My Dog”, line of breed portrait key chains she designed and
sculpted. Always a great lover of dogs, Patsy has raised many breeds
herself and spends countess hours studying both their anatomy and
behavior. Currently, a German Wirehaired Pointer and a Dandie Dinmont
Terrier rule the house. Two horses and a mule keep the grass down at her
current residence in Mancos
Colorado
,
a beautiful mountain town in the southwest.
Today she brings her years of
experience and artistic focus back to the animals she loves. Sculpting
almost 100% from life, her work in
bronze reflects many years of discipline and attention to detail.
An
Understanding of anatomy and spirit are the tools that bring life to her
sculpture. Equally important
is the story the sculpture tells, the sense of movement, and most of all,
a glimpse into the heart and mind of the animals portrayed. “My
approach to sculpture is not about copying, but rather, capturing
the essence of the animal in the moment.”
